The Monpa are believed to be the only nomadic tribe in Northeast India, sharing very close affinity with the adjacent Sharchops of Bhutan and the neighbouring Monpa communities of the Tibetan Autonmous Region of China. Besides yak mobile pastoralism, the Monpa practice shifting and permanent types of cultivation. Together the traditional Tibetan Chuba, Mongpa men and women use to wear a disctintive headwear made of yak hair, with long tassels.
