With an average altitude of 5000 m, the Changtang is a part of the high altitude Tibetan plateau in western and northern Tibet extending into southeastern Ladakh, India, with vast highlands and many lakes. From east to west, the Changtang stretches approximately 1,600 kilometres. Their native inhabitants, the Changpa are a nomadic people well adapted to its extreme changing climatic conditions, but still able to show elegance and happiness against adversity.
